CHOCHENG SPRING/SUMMER 2010 SHOW

Last week Cho Cheng presented his Spring/Summer 2010 Collection, styled by Mia Morgan, to a packed crowd at the Salon at Bryant Park. Lydia Hearst opened the show in a black silk satin corseted gown with an ivory tulle petticoat styled with an embellished black silk organza cape. For the finale Coco Rocha donned a white silk satin empire gown with Watteau train.

Front row notables included Alexandra Lebenthal, Alexandra Wilkis Wilson, Anisha Lakhani, Annabel Vartanian, Baroness Monica von Zadora-Gerlof, Chessy Wilson, Donya Archer Bommer, Euan Rellie,   Gillian Hearst Simonds, Joel Warren, Kimberly Guilfoyle, Kristian Laliberte, Lara Meiland Shaw, Lucia Hwong-Gordon, Malini Murjani, Lucy Sykes Rellie, Malini Murjani, Michelle Gerber Klein, Mimi So, Miss Scotland, Peter Davis, Shawna Christensen and Tracy Stern. Attendees received gift bags including a linen CHOCHENG handkerchief, a Rosenthal USA mug designed by Paticia Urquoila as well as Warren Tracomi and The YinOva Center gift certificates.

The collection inspired by “a potpourri of Holly Golightly, Frederico Fellini and the Japanese obi” featured versatile investment pieces with romantic details. Hand-fashioned silk petals seen throughout the collection were inspired by a vintage Hanue Mori gown commissioned by Cho Cheng’s grandmother and currently on display at the “Style Icon” exhibition in Beijing. For the debut of his ready-to-wear evening collection, Cho Cheng interpreted the iconic Tiffany box into exquisitely wrought gowns adorned with high- drama silk satin bows.

Cho Cheng inherited his love of fashion from his grandmother, Betty Char-Nuis Yan, the acclaimed couturier who founded the famed Betty Couture at the Peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong in 1960. An alumnus of New York City’s Parsons School of Design, Cho Cheng received the Golden Thimble Award for his graduate collection. Cho Cheng founded his eponymous fashion house, CHOCHENG in 2007 and was named one of China’s leading fashion designers in March 2008. CHOCHENG has an elite following, from celebrities to socialites to prominent businesswomen. Heralded as master of red carpet glamour, Cho Cheng has dressed Goldie Hawn, Nicole Kidman, Marcia Gay Harden, Bebe Neuwirth, Phyllis Newman, Nancy Reagan, Maggie Rizer and Tinsley Mortimer among others. This summer Cho Cheng celebrated the opening of his Flagship on New York’s Upper East Side which has become a shopping haven for his discerning clientele.
