Kate Phelan’s Signature Collection for Weekend Max Mara
Weekend Max Mara introduced the Signature Collection to express its evolution. Collaborating with high-profile creatives, the brand created a personalized wardrobe that interprets the company’s stylistic codes to create a unique style.
Kate Phelan, English fashion editor and stylist, is the creative mind behind the new Signature Collection of Weekend Max Mara for autumn/winter 2023-24. Former creative director of Topshop and long-time contributor to British Vogue, Phelan has designed a daywear collection in line with the DNA of Weekend Max Mara, perfect for creating cool and relaxed looks with references to British style.
For the collection, Phelan drew inspiration from a 1982 Vogue editorial that, after decades, remains contemporary and conveys the gender fluidity that is more current than ever.
The 24 by Kate Phelan collection
Kate Phelan’s collection presents a perfect blend of masculine and feminine details. The collection’s outerwear is an overfit Donegal tweed coat, a perfect mix of tradition and authenticity, luxury and timeless elegance, in perfect Weekend Max Mara style. The collection reflects the English stylist’s passion for gender contamination, in which styles overlap. “I have always loved the proportions of men’s clothes on the female body,” she says. “I find that masculine silhouettes look great over a tight skirt or a slinky dress.”
The collection includes flared tailored pants, a tweed pencil skirt, a chemisier dress, a white shirt, knitted sweaters, and outerwear such as the hand-sewn double wool coat, the Donegal tweed overcoat, and a parka with typical English Mod style. Tweed, wool, and cotton combined with technical fabrics ensure the perfect balance between tradition and innovation, while a palette of white, black, and natural colors constantly dialogues with color-block prints inspired by the graphics of famous magazines from the 1980s such as The Face – a magazine known for its innovative representation of the combination of fashion, music, and style. A selection of sneakers and lace-up shoes adds a simple and versatile touch to every look.
