About us

Fashion&Runway started the way most good things in this industry do: with an argument. Back in 2013, a few of us had spent years reading coverage that either fawned or sneered, and almost never explained. A collection would be called “a triumph” or “a misstep,” and you’d finish the piece knowing how the writer felt and nothing at all about the clothes. We wanted to read something else. Eventually it seemed easier to just write it.

So this is a magazine about garments — how they’re cut, why a hemline moves, what a designer left on the cutting room floor and what that decision tells you. It’s also a magazine about the life those garments belong to, which is why you’ll find hotels and skincare and dinner tables here alongside the shows. Nobody gets dressed in a vacuum.

A decade in, the masthead has changed and the sections have been rebuilt more than once, but the argument hasn’t moved an inch.

What we cover

Fashion is the wide lane: trends, business, red carpets, the news that moves the industry. Runway is narrower and stricter — collection coverage only, straight from the shows. If a piece isn’t about clothes presented on a runway, it doesn’t belong there.

Beauty runs on the same principle as everything else: we care about what works and what the evidence actually supports, not about the seventh serum of the season. Living and Travel cover the rooms and places the industry moves through. Young is for the names nobody knows yet — thesis collections, first shows, the designers we expect to be writing about ten years from now.

How we work

We go to the shows. We stand in the scrum outside Spring Studios in February like everybody else, we ride the subway downtown in wet shoes, and we write what we saw instead of what the release told us we’d see. When we weren’t in the room, we say so in the piece.

We don’t run display advertising. No banners, no pop-ups, nothing chasing you down the page. What that means in practice is that our incentives stay simple: we’re trying to be worth reading, not worth clicking. When a brand does pay for something, it carries a label and it never touches editorial coverage — the whole policy sits on our [editorial standards](#) page, and we’d rather you read it than take our word for it.

Get in touch

We read everything, corrections included. Pitches, tips, complaints and story ideas are all welcome.
