The Resort Collina d’Oro covers an area of 250’000 square metres and is located in Agra, on a hilltop, at an altitude of 500 meters to the south of Lugano. An enchanting landscape surrounded by lush nature and bathed in sunlight most of the year, with breath-taking panoramic views over the lake.
This magical location, where the colours and sinuous forms of the mountains merge into the pure water of the lake, inspired many famous artists and writers such as Hermann Hesse and Erich Kästner.
From “Deutsches Haus” to Wellness Resort
Silvio Tarchini, founder of the Outlet-Centre FoxTown in Mendrisio, understood the potential of this “golden” location and acquired the property in Agra. As the old structure could not be maintained, the “Deutsches Haus” was demolished in 2009 and the luxury Resort Collina d’Oro was built. The famous architect Ettore Mocchetti, editor of the prestigious magazine Architectural Digest, was responsible for the complete reconstruction. A soon as the guest enters in the lobby, he finds a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere: the refined luxury furniture in red, black and grey invites to rest and relax and grants highly-quality living standards, valued by the warm and welcoming service provided by the Director Marcello Marcoli and his staff.
Rooms to enjoy a relaxing stay
The guests can choose among 16 double rooms and 30 suites divided into Junior, Superior and Deluxe, as well as a Camelia Suite (200 m2) and a Magnolia Suite (250 m2). Beside all the basic equipment, Junior, Superior and Deluxe Suites boast a comfortable living room with a fully equipped kitchenette. All rooms are elegantly furnished, bright and airy; the brown oak floor and the creamy Mazzaro limestone in the bathrooms convey a warm and stylish atmosphere, enriched by an enchanting panoramic view over the lake or the park.
Apartments for sale and for rent
The Resort includes also 43 luxury apartments, real architectural jewels designed by Ettore Mocchetti, with surfaces varying from130 to 400 square metres, which can be either bought or rented for short as well as long-term periods. All the apartments have direct access to the car park and some of them are on two floors. They are the ideal solution for those who need privacy without renouncing to hotel services. Big windows, loggias and private gardens recall the magnificent elements of the “Deutsches Haus”, harmonically combined with modern architectural styles and innovative technologies (lights, heating, ventilation etc. can be handled electronically, directly near the entrance door).

In harmony with nature
Nature and ecological aspects play a fundamental role for the Resort Collina d’Oro. The whole complex covers a woodland area of 250‘000 square meters, a part of which has been retained as natural parkland. The old vineyards that surround the Resort give the property a unique charm and, to enhance the environment even more, new tree species have been planted.
Great care and attention was paid to ecological aspects even in the choice of energy supply. The Resort has a multi-source heating system based primarily on the use of geothermal sources: a technologically advanced solution achieving a drastic reduction in CO2 emissions.
