The autumn/winter 2023 collection by Michael Kors was a beautiful tribute to the bohemian spirit of Greenwich Village and the timeless glamour of the women who have inspired Kors over the years.

New York Fashion Week is about to give way to London, but Michael Kors’ closing show at the spectacular NYFW showcased the elegance of the upcoming winter 2023, inspired by the urban bohemian spirit of Greenwich Village, one of New York’s most famous and unique neighborhoods.

Located in the heart of Manhattan, south of 14th Street, Greenwich Village is also known as West Village or simply Village, and has a different atmosphere than the city’s skyscrapers. Here, tree-lined streets and typical red brick houses, colors that inspired the runway’s palette, create a more relaxed atmosphere. At night, however, the Village transforms into the nerve center of Manhattan’s nightlife, with venues becoming “alcoves” for artists, writers, and musicians.

Michael Kors’ fashion show presented a wide range of styles, including long coats, dramatic capes, dresses with exposed legs, skirts, shorts, and sophisticated jumpsuits. Kors played with proportions using cuts, slits, and form-fitting knits to frame the body, and low-waist belts to shift the focus. The rich and intimate palette of the collection ranged from shades of graphite and charcoal to warm shades of chocolate and chestnut, with monochromatic moments of merlot and forest.

Michael Kors’ accessories were the real highlight of the show, showing a softer attitude than in previous seasons. From fringe handbags and relaxed messengers to streamlined bucket bags, to be worn strictly with boots that complemented all the looks.

Michael Kors’ fashion show was a stellar event, with a guest list that included Gloria Steinem, Kate Hudson, Katie Holmes, and Mindy Kaling, among others. The live orchestra provided a multidimensional soundtrack while models, including Vittoria Ceretti, Irina Shayk, Amber Valletta, Liya Kebede, and Adut Akech, walked the runway lined with birch and mirrors.

For Kors, the collection is a celebration of timeless glamour and the women he calls “influencers,” those forever icons, sophisticated and with a strong personality, who have left a lasting impression on the designer and his work. He explained that “for this collection, I was really thinking about the things that influenced me when I was growing up in the ’70s – the women who influenced me, the neighborhood that influenced me, and the combination of big city glamour and bohemian that I found in Greenwich Village at that time.”
